Agriculture is the
center
of the life for many people in Isabel and the surrounding areas. The
Dakota
land is dotted with farms, ranches and small grain fields. Beef
cattle
are the primary livestock raised, however sheep and hogs are also
produced.
Each year farmers plant a variety of crops including corn, wheat, oats,
barley, alfalfa, and beans.
Many
different breeds of cattle are raised in the area including Red Angus,
Black Angus, Charolais, Limousine, Gelbvieh, Longhorn, and Hereford.
Each spring ranchers take turns helping neighbors
brand and work the spring calves. Most branding prove to be the great time to share
with friends and family.
