Begeman is the South Dakota-Iowa
Conference mem's basketball player
of the week, the league announce 
Tuesday.
   Begeman, a native of Isabel, was 
the MVP of the Daily Republic/DWU 
Team Makers Tournament last week
 at the Corn Palace, finishing the 37 
points and 11 rebounds in wins over 
Southeastern, Fla., and Huron Uni-
versity.
  He was 14-of-26 from the floor and 
4-9 from the free-throw line.
   Mount Marty's Matt Geiver shares
the men's honors with Begeman, while 
the University of Sioux Falls' Kim 
Gerdes earned the Women's honors t

SDSU DEFEATS DAKOTA WESLEYAN, NOW 8-2 FOR SEASON

BROOKINGS, SD ? South Dakota State jumped off to leads of 13-0 and 17-2 in the first seven minutes, then rode out a 69-52 victory
over Dakota Wesleyan in non-conference men1s basketball Tuesday night at Frost Arena.

SDSU led 34-21 at halftime before DWU cut the margin to 38-31 on a jumper by Brook Begeman with 14:58 to play. Then Austin Hansen, Valley Springs, hit a three-pointer and a layup pushing the margin back to 43-31, and SDSU eventually led by 21, at 58-37, with 7:18 to play.

Bill Fischer, Iowa Falls, IA, led the Jacks with 15 points while Hansen scored 13 and Cody Volmer, Presho, 10.

Begeman and Randy Baruth had 14 points each for DWU.

SDSU had a 49-28 rebounding advantage as Fischer had 10 and Andy Cone, Minnetonka, MN, added eight. Baruth paced DWU on the boards with seven.

SDSU, now 8-2 overall, will close its non-conference season at Minnesota-Duluth Saturday. DWU is now 4-7. Wesleyan is idle until Dec. 29 when they play in the DWU Teammakers Tournament at Mitchell.
